ISOLDE facility produces radioactive wastes that are stored at CERN. To be disposed of, Swiss authorities and Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) require the dismantling and pre-treatment of unstable radioactive targets such as irradiated uranium dicarbide. The purpose of my thesis is to develop a safe oxidation process to improve the stability of radioactive wastes that will be sent for repository at PSI. At CERN, the production of MEDICIS mass separated medical isotopes require an additional chemical separation step before they can be shipped to hospitals. My goal is to set-up a radiochemistry lab to handle, purify and control the quality of radioisotopes produced.
